World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested for felony assault after injuring a police officer with his car while bypassing barriers driving onto the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, for the PGA Championship. According to reports, police had been at the golf club investigating an early morning traffic fatality, and Scheffler was allegedly involved in a confrontation where he assaulted a police officer controlling traffic while trying to make his tee time. He was then booked, released, and, despite the serious charge, allowed back on the course to play his round, shooting a 3-under par 67. Was one of the sports’ most upstanding ambassadors simply panicked about being late or was it a ploy by the organization to generate interest after suffering from poor TV ratings? Did the PGA’s overselling of tickets, which caused overcrowding, create the circumstances leading to the tragic loss of a man’s life?

Broadcasting deals have made it more difficult for fans to easily watch games. With the NFL set to have games exclusively on Netflix on Christmas Day and ESPN already pulling PGA coverage to its pay service ESPN+ by noon, is the constant nickel-and-diming of sports fans the new normal? Amid the uproar over cord-cutting, CBS Sports also made controversial personnel changes by ousting analysts Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason from NFL coverage on NFL Today in a cost-saving move under new CBS Sports president David Berson. Who is on tap to replace the broadcasting pair? Is Berson just looking to impart his brand on the network or is he bringing in his own people as a control measure? Has the insatiable appetite for more money by the sports leagues, networks, and media giants gone too far? Will angry fans continue embracing alternative viewing options and the escalating costs that go along with them?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have hit a new milestone with their astronomical offensive numbers, posting the second-highest OPS in baseball history, just behind the famed 1927 Yankees lineup. Any guesses as to the names on the roster of that legendary team?
